I got the job I wanted! I interviewed to become the Store Manager for this awesome little thrift shop in my area. I, apparently, impressed them so much that I had my second interview the very next day with the Director for the Board. I had a really awesome conversation with him about the store and what they were looking for. At the end of my interview, he shook my hand and said “Congratulations. You start next Thursday.”

I’m looking forward to beginning this adventure. I have a bunch of ideas on how to grow the store’s business and how to build community awareness of both sides of the store. It’s not just a thrift store. It’s also has a fair trade side. They have some neat, one of kind, handmade products from countries like Guatemala and Brazil (and many others) that each have their own backstory. I’d love to increase the sales of those products.
I want to make a Facebook page for the store and an accompanying Instagram page to spread the word to our local community. Plus Facebook and Instagram give you the opportunity to run ads to spread awareness and gain traffic – my biggest goal for the store. I get to tell people how the store is part of the MCC, the Mennonite Central Committee, and how we’re dedicated to raising money for relief services worldwide!
Another part of my job will be community outreach – traveling to local churches and other businesses to spread the word about our store. We’ll need donations for our thrift side as well as volunteers to help out at the store.
I love that I’ve been given this opportunity. I can’t wait to see what I can do to help this awesome little store. I think that it’ll be a great asset in my “fight off my mental illness” adventure. It’s something to focus on. It’s a place to pour some love into. I can’t wait to become a member of the Et Cetera family.
